  ABOUT KERALA, God's own country

Lovingly called as the 'God's Own Country', Kerala is a tropical paradise far from the tourist trail at the southwestern peninsular tip of India. Kerala, the land of green magic, is a narrow, fertile strip on the south-west coast of India.  The landscape is dominated by rice fields, mango and cashew nut trees and, above all, coconut palms. The Western Ghats, with their dense tropical forests, misty peaks, extensive ridges and ravines, have sheltered Kerala from main land invaders and encouraged maritime contact with the outside world.

With the Arabian sea in the west, the western Ghats towering 500-2700 m in the east and networked by forty four rivers, Kerala enjoys unique geographical features that have made it one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Asia. An equable climate. Lush hill stations and exotic wildlife. Waterfalls. Sprawling plantations and paddy fields. Ayurvedic health holidays. Enchanting art forms. Magical festivals. Historic and cultural monuments. An exotic cuisine... All of which offer you a unique experience.

A singular advantage no other destination offers. Kerala has everything to give you a delightful sightseeing.
Among the 10 must see destinations of the world identified by the National geographic magazine "traveler", Kerala is known for its glorious sights and surprising sounds. Mesmerizing greenery, enchanting backwaters, verdant forests, vibrant wildlife, sun-kissedbeaches, cascading waterfalls, scintillating valleys with abundant coconut and areca nut palm groves, unending rice fields and mist-capped mountains make Kerala a land of nonstop magic.

A land like no other. Populated with the most advanced society in India, Kerala has a 100% literacy rate. Its physical quality of life index is the highest in the country and the culture of hospitality is well known.
Kerala is uniquely placed as an ideal adventure and eco destination. With Unique Ventures, you can explore the wilderness of the dense forests through trekking, mountain climbing, forest camping and bird watching.

Kerala occupies an area of 38,863 square kilometer and situates in the southwestern part of India. Kerala is surrounded by Karnataka State in the northern part, Tamilnadu State in the Eastern part and Arabian Sea in the South-western part. The average temperature in various parts of Kerala is between 21° C and 32° C. Rain fall is maximum during monsoon season. The annual rainfall is about 3000mm.

Weather
Kerala is fortunate in that it can boast of balmy weather almost all the year through. Unlike the north, it never gets too cold in the winter months, while the summers do not have the harshness of some of the other parts of the country. The result is a destination that is accessible year round. Best time is November-February when the air is bracing on some mornings there is a light mist, in the hills light woollens may be required in the evenings and early mornings. Warm (but not hot) months are March-May and September-October : at such times the flowers are out and though there is humidity, it is not daunting. Mid-May to August is the monsoon period, so you can expect a wet time. In addition, June can also be windy.
