Chimmony Wildlife Sanctuary

Founded in 1984, Chimmony Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the Mukundapuram district of Thrissur district. The head office of this sanctuary is at Echippara.The dense tropical forests of Chimmini (Chimmony), shelter diverse flora and fauna.
Partially Chimmony sanctuary lies in conjugation with Peechi-Vazhani wildlife of kerala and Parambikulam wildlife sanctuary. This park has a good variety of Flora and fauna. The dam across the Chimmini river offers a breathtaking view. It is between 40-110 m high. You also get to see Punda peak which is towards the east of the sanctuary. The park is rich in bird and animal species.

The forests of Chimmony Wildlife Sanctuary, teeming with 39 species of mammals, 160 species of birds, 25 species of reptiles, 14 species of amphibians and 31 species of fish attract nature lovers and wildlife admirers alike.

The forest department organises trekking and bamboo rafting programmes in and around the sanctuary. But the best of all experiences is the Moonlight Sonata, which involves rafting on full moon lights.
